The uptime refers to the time a server has been running since last boot. You could say that it is a measure of reliability and a way to measure how long a server or computer has worked without major problems. It should be noted that it also may mean that your computer or server has been neglected and required updates have been made. Actually it is not the time a server has been running since last interruption, it is interesting, but overall outage time over a given period of time.

Uptime is measured in percentages converted to time. The percentage stands for availability, then how long the server has run, and its counterpart is downtime. Down Time determines how long the server has been down, therefore, inoperative. A good uptime is pretty much everything over 99.9%. Usually you measure uptime in just 9′s, that is 99.99% or 99.999%, etc.. For 99.99%, this means a downtime of an average of 9 seconds per day, or 52 minutes and 36 seconds per year. The corresponding time of 99.999% is 0.9 seconds a day or 5 minutes and 16 seconds per year.

The uptime guaranteed by the web hosts through agreement is usually around 99.9%.

Bandwidth – what is it?
